I had dinner with a gentleman who is very well versed in matters of search last Friday. The tab was picked up by Overture, which was nice! Anyway, we were discussing the nature of search over the coming year with the context set by the flurry of Google releases. Google Analytics, Google Base and and the rapid upgrade to Google Site Maps being the driver. So far I’ve not had opportunity to double check the refrences but it seems that ths Ts and Cs on Google Analytics allows Google to review the data gathered. Two consequences of are that Google can apply that dat to its’ algorythmic search results and that it would put the site in breach of Ts and Cs with such as Yahoo/Overture.
The implications are rather significant. If you rely on Google for traffic, then you are perhaps obliged to use Analytics for tracking which allows them to analyse your site to see if you fit in with their vision. Socailly it’s huge and in the practice of Search Marketing it’s fairly significant to say the least.
