This was just the wrong day to call me and tell porkies. I spent most of the night finalising a pitch presentation and that presentation got called off when I was 5 minutes from the doorstep. Unavoidable reasons but it doesnt make me less grumpy. So, one of the team took a call from a chap called Ben Jackson from a company called Energize. The message that was passed through was that he had been referred in by Rob Knight at our very good friends PRWD. In case you were wondering, he was asked what it was regarding when he rang but declined to say. So I rang back. Bugger me if it isnt some recruitment company. I am going from zero to very bloody cross in a very short period of time indeed. I get put through to him, I give him a very clear statement on my position. The chap makes a very bad move and goes into objection handling mode. I delivered some more expressions of my dismay and put the phone down.

So I thought I’d give Rob a ring. Yes he had spoken to the guy, no he had not referred him on to us. I sort of guess that PRWD wont be using Energize either.

Why would I begin a relationship with an agency that introduces themselves with a lie?

Give that some thought before you consider using Energize Recruitment of Manchester

We’re looking for a Junior Web Analyst to assist in project planning and ongoing analysis, here are the details:

Junior Web Analyst Role Overview:

Working within the Web Analysis function of our Manchester based Agency, you will be responsible for measuring, understanding and reporting the impact of digital marketing activities. You will work with a range of web analytics tools to develop strategies for reaching larger and more engaged audiences online.

You will determine where website visitors are coming from, how deeply they are engaging with website content, how effectively they are being converted and at what rate they are being retained. You will be given the opportunity to report your findings back to the client and should be focused on deploying your insights to drive improved client outcomes over time.

The Person:

This role would be well suited to a candidate with some commercial experience using web analytics packages (e.g. Google Analytics, Webtrends), a good understanding of online marketing and a genuine interest in digital media. You will possess the following skills / experience and be eager to develop your proficiency in these areas:

Knowledge of or experience in delivering marketing campaigns, with a focus on search, pay-per-click, direct or interactive online marketing.

Experience in a relevant role working with online marketing data. You will be comfortable with the theory and practice of website measurement. You will have experience of helping define measurement strategies

Experience with a range of web analytics packages and web insights tools

Knowledge of or exposure to statistical analysis techniques and processes. Previous experience as an insight analyst, campaign analyst or marketing analyst would be highly regarded, while an intermediate knowledge of Excel, SQL, SPSS or SAS would be beneficial.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. You will be comfortable translating your findings into reports and presenting your findings internally and before clients

Experience of writing propositions or preparing research to feed into propositions for prospective clients

Our ideal candidate would be an ‘ideas person’, rather than just a ‘numbers person’. As a pioneer in an emerging field, you will be committed to finding new and better ways of working, rather than simply getting the job done.

If you’re interested in a career with PushON, and would like to know more, then please contact Dan@pushon.co.uk.

We don’t use recruitment agencies, so if you’re interested in the job for yourself please apply directly.

Thanks to support from Northwest Vision and Media, we are now able to recruit for a trainee online marketeer. This is an initial 6 months placement with a good salary. As you would expect with us, the succesful candidate is going to get their hands very dirty very quickly. The formal job description is:

Length of Training: 26 weeks (6 months)
Training Allowance: You will get a training allowance for your attendance on this placement, which will be comparable to an entry level salary in the industry
Location: Manchester
Placement Start Date: September 2009
Placement Finish Date: March 2010

About the Company

PushON are an award winning online marketing agency who diferentiate themselves via their technical expertise and ethical approach to online marketing.

About the Placement

The Trainee Online Marketer will have the opportunity to work with the PushON team in fulfilling client needs across SEO, PPC management, online PR, blogging and copywriting. This is a unique opportunity for an individual who is already turned on to the potential of digital marketing and PR.

Placement End

By the end of this placement the trainee can expect to have worked hands-on on accounts for high profile, demanding clients with one of the region’s leading agencies in this field. Your training and development will be bespoke with the aim of arriving at the point where your business knowledge, creative abilities and technical insight are at the level where you can confidently manage your own client base.

Person Specification for Trainee Placement

You need to be able to demonstrate a strong prior interest in this particular area of the digital industries – a degree in subjects such as e-business or marketing / digital marketing would be useful, but not essential as long as you can demonstrate the right level of understanding in the following:

• SEO
• PPC Management
• Blogging
• PR
• Copywriting
• Basic web development / HTML

This knowledge can have come from studies, work experience or voluntary activities – ideally a mix of all three and hands-on wherever possible.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this opportunity you must:
• Be over 18
• Reside in the Northwest of England (Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Merseyside)
• Have LESS than 12 months’ PAID experience in the industry
• Demonstrate a commitment to a career in the interactive and digital industries through a combination of education, training and work experience

Northwest Vision and Media are funding the succesful candidatetrainee. So the application process is via them.

Just to really underline the point, the people who we like to employ have got off their backside and already done something demonstrably digital. It may be running a blog. It may be running a small website. There are so many easy things that you can do online to develop skills. You wouldnt believe the amount of CVs we get where the applicant hasn’t done a thing online. I’m thinking this is turning into another blog post about how to get into the industry….

Two things to note straight off.

No agencies. Not one. If you try a cheeky punt, you will be added to our very public list of agencies not to do business with. (Well, the one we are preparing!)

This is an ill formed thought. This is a requirement that is a maybe but not definite just now.

We’re at the stage where we believe a business development person would be very helpful to us. Business is strong and the shift in advertising focus is benefitting the digital sector.

It has to be a really strong cultural match with the rest of the team in PushON. That doesn’t refer to gender, race or creed by the way, it refers to our approach to work. We like doing interesting work that fascinates us and delights the client. It’s also got to deliver a measurable benefit to the client, after all, we want long term relationships. Consequently, the right person is going to focus on bringing in business of the right shape for PushON that will deliver a long term relationship with interesting and relevant work.

If you are purely commission oriented then you’re definitely not right for us. What the package is, we don’t know right now. Did I mention that this is an ill formed thought? It’s going to be a reasonable basic with a reasonable commission dependant on experience in the sector. Talking of experience, you have got to have a very good understanding of the web and search. It’s a complex product to specify and sell. We do not like to productise, we like to deliver bespoke solutions to deliver best value to the client. We operate a really flexible approach to work. We’re digital after all, which means that time and place of work can vary as long as the job gets done excellently.

There will be some more requirements of course but hopefuly that might strike a chord with someone. If you think it fits you, or someone you know, get in touch.

First off let me make it really clear. NO RECRUITMENT AGENCIES! That’s not a maybe, It’s a definite.

Moving on,it looks like we need to expand again. New business is looking very good so far this year so we need some quality skills and the right person to add to our team. Before applying you need to understand that we are not the best payers. There are many other agencies that pay more. However, we do interesting work. We work very hard and very flexibly and we train very well. If you want to work in an environment where you will be expected to learn and improve across the whole range of skills in search, we’re probably the right place for you.You will be involved in organic search marketing; you will be trained up to Google Adwords Pro; you will be involved in viral marketing campaigns; you will help with website builds.

The person we are looking for probably has some experience in PR as well as in search. We have strong technical skills internally so we need to bring in some of those creative and linguistic skills associated with PR. Our staff are educated to degree level, which is nice, but not essential. A proven and demonstrable track record in the sector is what impresses us.

Personality wise, you will need to be able to get on well in a small and quite bouncy office. You also need to be confident as you will have clients to manage.

If this fits you, drop us a mail or give us a call

As you will have seen, we’ve just recruited the delightful Mark, but we still need more. We need good staff with a great understanding of organic search marketing techniques and preferably some experience of PR. The PR isn’t essential but it would be a nice complement to the skills we have in house. A years experience would be nice as is a commitment to the team. We’re a small but growing company so being able to add something special into the mix is really important. If you fit the bill let us know. If you know someone who would fit the bill, let us know.

And just so we’re really, really clear, if you are from an agency Recruitment Agency* don’t call us. We will be very rude

*Slight amend from Kat… we’d be happy to hear from people who have worked in digital agencies, online marketing agencies or PR agencies… just not through recruitment agencies.

PushON are doing rather well at bringing in new clients at the moment so we need to recruit. We’re looking for possibly a couple of people who are especially interested in organic search marketing. The ideal candidate is going to have some reasonably good HTML skills but be fascinated wit hthe marketing end of things. We need people who can get into the roots of a site and understand why it isn’t working. Of course if you have a back ground in PPC, that’s going to help. Google Adwords professionals are always welcome. If you want to know more, drop us a line or pick up a phone. Let us have a copy of your CV and make sure you point out any work you’ve done online. Are you running a blog or a website, point it out to us. In 2006 I started my own blog, Notebooks (under my pen name), which has recently been admitted to the DMOZ (Open Directory Project). I am fluent in Russian and French and hold two MAs in History. Previously I worked as a freelance translator/interpreter, researcher and journalist for the BBC Radio Manchester, CSV Media Clubhouse, and Datamonitor, among others.

I’m absolutely thrilled to become a part of PushON. The company combines cutting-edge professionalism in their field with a wonderful working environment. Add to that a light modern office in Manchester’s city centre and the all-company great sense of humour and love for music. This is an ideal place for someone like me, who is creative, curious and loves exploring new territories rather than following the beaten track. I’m excited about using my foreign languages, research, radio journalism and sound editing skills, and blogging – something I totally adore. Oh, and listening to the great music, of course!
